VICTORIAN RENOVATION

Belmont, Massachusetts

This Old House® — Season 36 Preview   After many months of hard work, I'm excited to finally announce that I'm the interior designer on the upcoming season of This Old House®! It's been a thrill and honor to be a part of such a wonderful and iconic show in its 36th season. The entire TOH team is terrific and the homeowners are wonderful — I hope you'll all tune in to watch.

This Old House® — Season 36, Episode 6   Amanda Reid presents the formal Living Room design to TOH Belmont homeowners and host, Kevin O'Connor, at the Boston Design Center. See how a design can complement the historic Victorian architecture and feel fresh, updated and functional for a modern family.

This Old House® — Season 36, Episode 7   Amanda Reid meets homeowner, Katherine, and host, Rich Trethewey, at a tile showroom to finalize bath finish selections. See the plans for the luxurious master bath and how a classic black & white scheme can be made kid appropriate.

This Old House® — Season 36, Episode 10   Amanda Reid meets homeowner Katherine and host Kevin at a lighting showroom to select fixtures. See how we used an old existing sconce as inspiration for selecting new and updated fixtures.

This Old House® — Season 36, Episode 11   Amanda Reid meets homeowners, Katherine and Murat, and host, Kevin, at the house to select interior paint colors for key spaces. See how the color palette is interwoven throughout the space for a cohesive look.

This Old House® — Season 36, Episode 12   Amanda, Katherine and Kevin go on a road trip to Vermont to visit Canvasworks to watch how a floorcloth is made. Popular during Victorian times, floorcloths are incredibly durable and easy to maintain so are a great solution for high traffic areas such as kitchens and mudrooms. While traditional patterns are possible, they are totally custom in both pattern and size -  see the contemporary take Amanda envisioned for the Belmont house.

This Old House® — Season 36, Episode 15   Preparation for the final reveal is underway in the second to last episode.  During the window treatment installation, Amanda shows Kevin the types of treatments and explains why she selected drapery for the living and dining rooms and roman shades for the young daughter's room.

This Old House® — Season 36, Episode 16   In the master bedroom, the challenge was how to make a design impact in the relatively small space that needed to accommodate the homeowners' king bed.  To make the space feel special, Amanda commissioned an artist to paint a custom wall pattern.  See how the artist creates the beautiful pattern.

This Old House® — Season 36, Final Reveal   In the last episode of the Belmont Victorian project, we see the final reveal of the entire home.  In this scene, Amanda shows Katherine and Kevin the final design in the Family, Living and Dining Rooms and explains how the selections reinforce the design concept to reintroduce antique elements and mix in contemporary pieces for a fresh, updated look that respects the architecture of this old house.

We found Mandarina Studio on Houzz and loved the aesthetic. We brought Amanda on to our project and she exceeded our expectations in every way. She was tireless in helping us pick light fixtures, furniture, bedding, plumbing fixtures, tile, and paint colors. She worked really well with our architect and made herself available when we (or even he) had questions about design decisions that weren't directly related to her scope. She is fun to be around and gorgeously stylish. Her assistant, LIlit, is no different. What a power team! Our home turned out perfect and we'd definitely work with her again if we had the chance.

Mandarina Studio :: Boston interior design contemporary bold

Relocating from Manhattan, one welcome challenge was how to decorate when you are jumping from 700 to 4,000 square feet. The other more challenging aspect was how to reflect my design aesthetic and my husband’s while making it child friendly. Thankfully, I had the pleasure of working with Mandarina and Amanda Reid was able to conceptualize, edit and put forth all of these ideas and make them materialize. This was not an easy task by any means! The challenge was creating a great design that has a modern feel but did not negate the architecture and integrity of the house which is over one hundred years old. We also wanted to reflect our love of the sea and exotic travel. Amanda’s design achieved this in a way that is pleasing to everyone. More importantly our children are able to use the rooms as the fabric choices, while being modern and chic are also stain resistant and will hold up to wear and tear. My family couldn’t be happier with the space designed; it quintessentially represents the best in design and function.

I am so lucky to have crossed paths with Amanda and Mandarina. My project was to completely redesign the interior of my home. Kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and living spaces were all part of my project. Amanda’s creative vision and excellent communication skills allowed me to merge my tastes with her expertise for a truly impressive final result. Leaving no stone unturned, Amanda assisted with color, furniture, accessories, and more. She is tirelessly responsive and incredibly talented at her craft. I would recommend Amanda to anyone who is looking for excellence.

When we first bought our house we knew that there was so much potential. It is because of Amanda and Mandarina that this potential was realized. Every detail from light fixtures, window coverings, paint colors, furniture and even linens were carefully thought through and perfectly executed...we wouldn't change a thing. Amanda worked with us on a full concept from basement to attic and transformed a house into our forever home.

Amanda helped us design a four square colonial home in Lexington. The house was a complete gut rehab and she helped at every stage, selecting tile, bathroom fixtures, paint colors and eventually furniture and lighting fixtures as well. We incorporated heirloom furniture into our modern aesthetic and the effect is elegant without being too traditional. She really made our dream home come true. Even when we were walking through gutted space, I felt that the house was already our home because of her incredible attention to detail and sense for the look I was trying to achieve. Amanda has an extremely sharp eye, is wonderfully professional, very responsive and also has a lovely sense of humor. She is extraordinarily talented and we have recommended her highly to several of our close friends. I feel very fortunate to have found her.

Mandarina Studio :: commercial interior design contemporary bold

My company hired Amanda Reid to design our boutique interior last fall. She not only tremendously exceeded my expectations, but completed a project that could not have been done without her artistic expertise. Amanda is also an absolute joy to work with. She is methodical, pays attention to detail, keeps your needs and visions in mind but also brings new ideas to the table to enhance that vision and I couldn’t have been happier with the results.  She completely converted a very tiny space into a beautiful space that still receives compliments everyday.  From the lighting to every piece of individual furniture selected she transformed my dream boutique into a successful reality. I would hire Amanda again in a heartbeat and recommend her for anyone who is in need of an amazing designer for their  business or home.

Working with Amanda at Mandarina Studio has been a great pleasure. From the start she understood the vision we have for our home and has introduced elegant solutions, finding those perfect pieces that we will love for years to come. She has been flexible with our hectic schedules, yet always timely and precise. The daunting task of furnishing a house has become a fun collaboration.

Amanda Reid is a talented interior designer who understood my vision for the health food restaurants and brought it to life. She was highly responsive and supportive throughout the whole design and construction process. I have complete trust in her good taste and value her opinions. Just as importantly, Amanda was able to work within my budget and source materials that were beautiful yet practical.

Mandarina Studio :: NYC interior design contemporary bold loft

Amanda Reid has designed my personal residence, a newly acquired loft in Midtown West area of Manhattan in New York City. She was also responsible for interior renovations of common areas of two of my residential income producing properties at 2146 and 2148 Second Avenue in Manhattan. Through the entire process, Amanda demonstrated ultimate taste and passion for interior design. Her vision transformed outdated properties into contemporary stylish spaces. She was very considerate to my requirements and budget constraints. She didn’t replace my vision with hers, like many designers do; instead, she adapted her vision to accommodate my needs as a client, while transforming it into a design masterpiece. Amanda is the best designer I have ever worked with through my career of thirteen years as an architect and real estate developer. I highly recommend her to everyone in my professional network for a variety of projects.

— Max Drivin, Owner, The Drivin Group, NYC

I reached out to Amanda at Mandarina to help design and put finishing touches on a number of rooms in my house. I am actually expecting my second child and run a business of my own so I do not have much time on my hands these days and Amanda made it so easy to get everything done in a timely fashion. We communicated mostly through email and she was always great about laying out multiple options and giving me quick feedback on which direction to go in for each room. She also took care of all the ordering for me so I could just pick my favorite pieces and wait for them to arrive at my front door! I am very house-proud because of the deign work Amanda did with my home and absolutely love coming home to it everyday!! I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for design help or just looking to add a final "polished" look to your home.
